Okay all you wine enthusiasts – you may have been mocking about our wine tour, but mock no more. We visited two wineries today (we have another tomorrow morning) – very different from each other. The first was developed in collaboration with an Italian winemaker, and was small and modest – see the wine tasting as it happened. (We recommend the Reserve Cabernet Sauvignon – not cheap but delicious). The second was Chandon (of Moët et Chandon fame) – only been up and running for four years, but absolutely brilliant Brut and Brut Rose. We thought the contrast between the beautiful garden – which could have been in any of the places we’ve done wine tours before – and the Indian setting with cattle particularly striking. Who knows what tomorrow brings?
Wineries- an indication of how India has changed in recent years.
Indeed – though the market for wine, I suspect, is currently pretty small.
If the wine is good, it’s such a shame they’re not making more of the fact that it’s made in India – the branding and packaging seems to be designed to make you think it’s European.
Well, you know what snobbery is likely to be involved in the notion of ‘ fine wines’ and the grape types are all European. Those Indian labels ( please not tigers!) will appear in time I’m sure.
Another good reason to go! They keep clocking up!
They do indeed ! Wine still quite a luxury here though and the reds not a patch on a good Malbec…
