We spent the afternoon at the world-class (and we mean it!) Israel museum, with too much to see and do. But one of the most surprising things we learnt was in a small exhibition on women and the veil in contemporary times in Israel, where we found out that some Jewish women and nuns (as well as some Muslim women, of course) cover themselves completely. Here’s a photo (of a photo) and extract about the former group – but needless to say, it’s hard to tell who belongs to which group.

Gorgeous photos. Engaging observations. Enjoying your eyes and thoughts in words and pics. Love

Thanks Elizabeth. Very hard not to stare sometimes and of course the best pictures are the ones we can’t take!
Rather ghostly, somehow. G
Indeed – eight layers of ghostliness- v strange
Looks such a fascinating place. Your posts have convinced me that I must visit. Great photographs. Keep them coming!
Yes, fascinating and full of contradictions. People much warmer and friendlier than I’d expected ( the opposite of Romania..). Food also fantastic!
Fascinating. Of course, early depictions of christian women also sbow them covered up in a way that is not unlike the moedern hijab. I’m intrigued by the idea of jewish nuns!
I think it’s the eight layers of covering that slightly (!) freak me out…
These are amazing! Loving the blogs. Sounds like an amazing journey Dee x
Yes, amazing and fascinating – we saw several of the Stations of the Cross yesterday though decided not to follow the whole set..
