We are nearly at the end of our journey – back in Thessaloniki in our stylish Air B and B, having driven 3000 kilometres and taken 1600 photos. We leave tomorrow. But we have a small competition for you. Sue started it (‘never pass up the chance of a cheap joke’) and Rosalind and others have taken up the baton, but this is your chance, dear reader, to make your contribution. There are no prizes – just our undying affection and gratitude.
And if puns don’t appeal, then what is this? (taken at Philippi yesterday)

And if that doesn’t appeal, how about any guesses for the fourth and the sixth objects on this recycling bin in silly Metsovo?

Thanks to everyone for following us, for comments, for companionship and generally sharing this incredible journey with us. Come to Northern Greece – it is magnificent!
I will miss this blog! Nappy and toothpaste tube, of course.
Sounds right. I’ve just been trying to work out the counting system – those look like 5 and 7 to me but I’m probably being a bit obtuse…
Nappy and a tampon???
Safe travels home…xxx
Thanks, Nicky. Can’t quite believe I’m hanging about in Zurich airport staring at a photo of a Greek recycling bin..
The first one is definitely a contraption to fit your beer glass into and keep it stable while on the Athos cruise
Ah, ever the practical realist!
A womb girdle?
For keeping ones womb sort of secure? Or adding an extra layer of camouflage when nearing Mt. Athos?
And: one thing at a time (i.e. don’t eat everything – mono-eating advised)?
Mono-eating with toothpaste as the final course?
Maybe some sort of scold’s bridle?
Surely a mermaid’s comb and a half eaten vegan sandwich
Wilder and wilder! And why is the sandwich vegan? Because it’s in the recycling bin?
3,000 km – greecing the wheels of the Thracian economy? (That’s my last groan-worthy contribution.)
And my thoughts on the contraption followed similar lines to Gabriel’s: a scold’s bridle for anti-patriarchal souls? Or a safe place to keep a troublesome grapefruit?
Thank you both for an outstanding holiday. x
And thank you for that groan worthy joke!
I’ve changed my mind, it’s obviously the mermaid’s seaweed sandwich!
Is that with or without Rosalind’s troublesome grapefruit?
I have really enjoyed following your trip as a lover of Greece who has never visited that area – and congratulations on the timing to be able to watch your uncle’s funeral
Thanks Frances – I’m glad you’ve enjoyed the trip with us – it’s been lovely to have companionship along the way. XX
Thank you for sharing your travels. Why, in Valencia are we trying to work out your Greek recycling. But we are going with toothpaste and nappies
Tash and Katie in Valencia
Seems like that might be the correct answer but I think we wish that the other responses are also objects appropriate to throw in the bin!
