Jagannath’s wardrobe

A long time ago, we showed you Jagannath – the Odisha god whose temple in Puri we were not admitted to (we showed you lots of pictures from around the temple). When we reached Koraput in the south-west of Odisha, we found that an individual had set up both a temple and a kind of museum to Jagannath. The museum displayed some of the many garments worn by Jagannath – he is changed every day of the year and sometimes more than once a day. We were also allowed to visit the temple – the Jagannath trio here are one third the size of those in the Jagannath Temple in Puri, so somewhat easier to manage.

What to say? We liked the moustache.
And here was what Jagannath, his brother and his little sister were wearing inside the temple, the day we visited.

  1. These Jagannath photos are really wonderful. The various forms of dress sort of prototypes for Ru Paul’s Drag Race.
