An interlude

We have arrived in the Sarai at Toria, a wonderful and peaceful place where we’ll be posting endless pictures of animals and birds if we can get adequate wifi. But before we do that, we wanted to offer a change from monuments with some other scenes from the last few days.

First – sitting on the first-floor terrace of a restaurant in Orchha, we were able to stare at the parade below and take sneaky photos. I liked these three monks with a phone and a cow:

And this very elegant priest:

And this scene of everyone taking photos – or directing the photos – is so typical of our experience of pilgrims and domestic tourists:

Then we have the speciality of Orchha – a very rich milk-based sweet cake which is offered to Rama (the brightly coloured temple you saw a few posts ago):

We were given a small piece by a charming seller – but two bites was all we could manage without bringing on diabetes:

Our road trips have all been great – endless interest and surprisingly good surfaces. We enjoyed a tea stop here:

Our car was very comfortable but sadly we had to say goodbye to our driver Ansar and the car today:

Tomorrow – Indian heaven plus birds and animals! Provided we don’t freeze to death …
