Until the day after tomorrow …

After another winery visit, we head off into the wilds tomorrow: we go to a place called Matheran which has no cars or autos (tuk-tuks), so we have to catch a toy train there (no, I don’t know what that is) and then walk or take a horse – guess what, we’ll walk! So I don’t expect we’ll be able to send you an instalment of our blog, but we thought we’d send you an extra one in the meanwhile.

There is an extremely loud wedding at the hotel where we’re staying: the party is some way down the drive, so we went to find it and here’s a rather fetching picture of the lights and some bored-looking umbrella holders to keep you going.

    1. Back in signal contact! Yes, we did enjoy Matheran – no cars or bikes, lots of horses, gorgeous forest walks. Lots of red dust which we’re now trying to remove..

  1. I think a toy train is what the Indians call a single gauge railway – the kind of thing that goes up to Simla.

    1. You’re quite right – and though small in scale ( the rails really are v close together), it’s all still pretty impressive as the tiny train hauls the carriages ( 1st, second and third class for a 15 minute journey) up the incline, hooting loudly on arrival

  2. Disappointed by lack of horse riding but very much looking forward to photos of the train. I can report that it’s a bit miserable being back in UK but the thought of your return is one thing to brighten the gloom. Enjoy your last few days x

    1. Thanks Cate – we are trying not to think about our return, but note that the weather looks better after we get back. Look forward to exchanging stories! XX
