I hope you’ve missed us! We arrived in Mumbai at our smart hotel absolutely covered in red dust from our stay in Matheran over the last two days. Matheran is an old British hill station (later taken over by Parsees – of whom more in another post) which has no cars, trucks, autos (tuk-tuks) or motor bikes. Everything is carried up by packhorses, people or the little train. Having taken the little train with two guys carrying our luggage, we then walked to our bungalow hotel – some half hour from the little town. We walked to various viewpoints and enjoyed the peace and quiet, doing the journey in reverse this morning. We have completely ruined the towels in the bathroom and will be requesting fresh towels, despite appeals to save water!

Welcome back! I’ve missed your updates
Thank you Lex – so sweet of you!
Does Sue know how many people a year get killed walking on railway tracks?! Loved the brightly coloured engine. Well, done you intrepid travellers
Not sure I do know how many people get killed on railway tracks – suspect in Matheran they’d ask for a selfie before mowing me down ( in so far as you can mow anything down with single gauge). V sweet train.
We have missed you and have been wondering how things were going. Sounds like a magnificently tranquil place. Yet another special find with yet another pace.
It was v tranquil apart from the monkeys – the manager unfortunately mentioned snakes which unnerved M but he reassured us they’re only around properly in the rainy season
it looks spectacular
Awesome as our American friends might say – huge landscape of massive red rocks
A wonderful set of images of country life….the the colours, the dirt, the tranquility…
No pictures of Indian tourists riding horses, though – not tranquil but definitely funny..
Amazingly red that soil – presumably some sort of mineral content. Enjoy Mumbai!
M is convinced the soil smelled funny – possibly minerals, possibly horse pee, who knows? Now loving Mumbai – great city.
