Since our map has not been updated (I can only do so from a computer and we don’t have one with us), I should explain that we have visited three cities in Kosovo: Peja (where we saw the first of our monasteries and had a dreadful lunch), Gjakova where we stayed last night, and Prizren where we are tonight. Peja was, to be frank, a bit of a dump (as was the capital Prishtina, judging by its ringroad which is probably not fair) – Gjakova and Prizren much more charming.
So here’s a mixture of street scenes – the charming and the not so charming. We’ve included some images that remind us of the terrible time Kosovo has had (we did not take photos of the bombed and bullet-marked houses we’ve seen), as well as some of the beautiful mosques and minarets that have miraculously been undamaged.

I have my eye on a few outfits in the window of the shop that I can only assume is called “shite queer”
Honestly Lex – you are so quick! White Queen to Shite Queer is quite a transformation!
Are they really headless models?
Oh they really are! Not simply headless, of course, but torso free I think you’ll find
You can’t judge a city by its ring road! North circular or M25 anyone? And any number I seem to have driven on in my time of visiting beautiful cities. But really interesting street scenes. I like the hero of war. Not so sure about the teeth
You’re quite right of course – am quite prepared to believe Kosovo’s capital has a pretty and lively heart!
I’m impressed by all the things that are not allowed. I hope you left those mini-skirts at home!
Fortunately we decided not to pack the miniskirts and stilettos . Left the guns at home too.
Clothes shops would be at home in Fonthill Road!
Indeed they would! There were dozens of these shops, matched by an equal number selling trainers. Sadly, a rather dismal shopping mall had a store selling clothes for 12 euros a kilo.
Love the frocks! Where is Fonthill Road?
Are you thinking of going? Finsbury Park – perfect for prom dresses ( why do I even know that?)
I guess the one caption could equally have read: Peja “Clothing” Shops.
Love all of these observations. Did you ever find the RR./UL. Cherie Bleri?
Sadly no sign of a Cheri street. Madeleine Allbright and Bill Clinton can apparently be found somewhere…
Gosh. Someday would like to see your whole album of these streets. Were the candy shop colours truly as ubiquitous as these shots suggest? (autocorrect gave ‘shits’)
Yes, indeed – interspersed with trainer shops – no idea how anyone makes any money…
