We loved our stay in Kosovo – and, given the success of our only food blog, thought you would like to see this morning’s delicious breakfast, prepared for us in the restaurant of our hotel (more a restaurant with rooms than a hotel – but wonderfully comfortable, nevertheless). The breads were freshly made on a fire.

We then crossed back into Albania, with barely a glance from the passport officer (and no stamps either), and drove across the country to Durres, where we planned to visit the archaeological museum and various sites. But we were defeated by the lack of parking and general feel of the place so we left town and headed for our ‘hotel’ which I had booked because it was such a contrast to everywhere else we were staying. So here, for your enjoyment, are some of the features.
The first block is the bed, the corridor, the lift (!) and one of the paintings and the chandelier in our bedroom.

The second block comes from the outside of the hotel.

And the final piece-de-resistance is the television! Watch the video …
Dear god! I hope you dressed appropriately with much festooning of hair with flowers
Slightly regretted not having done some clothes shopping in Kosovo. Hair also too short for festooning. Fellow guests – the women anyway – very glam with stilettos…
Aww c’mon….that TV? You’ve nipped off to Vegas haven’t you? Shame Eurovision is over……
The TV even had Netflix. Agree it would have been the perfect spot for Eurovision – most of which we actually managed to watch in Shkodra ( didn’t make any difference that the commentary was in Albanian).
I think you’ve earned the glamour after all those roads, and being surrounded by wolves and the visits to bears. Was that a soufflé for breakfast? Have you worked out how the walls are decorated in your new hotel?
Trick photograph – it’s a thin omelette taken from above. In terms of the walls, expensive wallpaper I think – some serious texturing in any event.
Who needs a museum with a hotel like that, huh?
Quite right! More fun too than the Archeological Museum …
You will have to stay for a second night! What has the coffee been like?
Coffee and food both excellent. The whole place was very strong on Italian influences – architect Italian, very good pasta and a wine list of Italian wines, cakes and filled croissants for breakfast.
That ‘hotel’ is amazing! Why the quotation marks. Which you see I have dutifully copied. But more importantly- where is it? I’d be booked in already. You didn’t miss a lot in Durresi – the start of Via Ignacio is somewhat scruffy. The amphitheatre was pretty amazing but apart from that and some social realist statues along the front that’s it. We couldn’t find the museum.
No idea about the quotation marks – it was definitely a hotel, presenting itself as a palace, Hollywood style. Glad to hear that we didn’t miss anything in Durresi.
Love your shiny red Vespas. Do get a shot of Sue taking off on it (gorilla in tow)
Those Vespas looked like they’d never been ridden anywhere. In the restaurant there was a similarly gorgeous red and shiny prosciutto slicer that simply gleamed.
Wow fancy Las Vegas hotel!!
Yes, indeed! And set, rather incongruously, in a perfectly ordinary suburb of the big town..
Did you have to say ‘Rise TV’ – is it voice command? Fascinating.
I’ve now caught up with your adventures. Delayed over busy. I’m off to Mexico!!! Thought a lot of your trip there too. We’ll get together on return early June!!!
Enjoy
Much love
How nice to hear from you, Elizabeth. No, the TV didn’t respond to voice commands – good idea though! Have a great time in Mexico!
‘Breakfast in Kosovo’ sounds like a good title for a novel and it did look amazing as did the blingy hotel – was there any surface of your room left undecorated?
Sounds like it would be quite a serious novel – perhaps even gloomier than Lunch in Tirana? In terms of the bling bedroom, short answer No. the legend of Perseus was being played out on the ceiling – Medusa and all…
