More food

Lake Ohrid has two types of trout which are not found anywhere else. We had the larger one, salma letnica, which apparently resembles sea trout, for lunch, our best since coming to Albania (and we have had a lot of good food).

Here’s lunch:

It seems that our earlier food blog was one of the most popular, so we wanted to check with you if you wanted more information on food – and so we wanted to run a poll. It turns out that I have to pay more to get the results so I have withdrawn it. Sorry!

    1. Somewhere there’s a photo of an appalling chip, chicken and ketchup sandwich ordered in a moment of despair in Kosovo. I try not to think about it. Usually, the food is excellent – fresh and delicious.

      1. Clearly I need to find it, and to post it with last night’s dinner – which was entitled ‘Smoked duck with plums show’. We’ll keep you on tenterhooks to find out what that meant.

  1. And was the trout you had for lunch as good as its gastronomic reputation? Apparently Lake Ochrid has 4 races of this brown trout . The lake has been isolated so long that the four races spawn at different times and in different areas and do not now interbreed. Rather Balkan ? Curiously there is a lake in Northern Ireland where the same phenomenon happens.

    1. So good to hear from you, Alan. We were hoping the grilled trout would draw you in. V interesting about the different types of trout – balkinesque seems just right. And yes, it was completely delicious

  2. Lunch looks delicious! You don’t get much in the way of roast potatoes do you – good job the French party weren’t there or there would have been much grumbling.

    1. Agree potatoes were v few – the bread however was v serious and weighed at least 500 grams. The thought of the French party arriving en masse ( see, no English phrase for the concept) is profoundly disturbing.
