We drove a few kilometres along Lake Ohrid to a little-used border-crossing into North Macedonia, parking our car on the Albanian side and setting off on foot across the Albanian and then the North Macedonian borders. (Although we had paid the car hire company to take the car into the country, we would have had to pay an additional fee for a green card, and that seemed a bit silly for an extremely short trip.) Weird to walk through with little except camera and passports. They did want to know where we were going …

We had planned to walk a very short distance to a monastery beside the lake, but the footpath through the woods that we’d been advised to take looked treacherous – and not only did we not have our sticks with us, but we’ve had too many snake encounters (another huge one slithered across our road a couple of days ago) to entice us.
At the entry to the woods, we found this stupendous dragon-fly.

And we found a lizard eating an ant, which I’m sure they do in Albania too ..

We came across this wonderful North Macedonian sign which Sue has interpreted as a very old-fashioned version of ’no pictures’.

And because we have no stamps in our passport, we took a little video, just to prove that we went. Note the wildflower-filled banks of the North Macedonia road back to the border, with the teasing sound of kids playing at the monastery we failed to visit.
And more wildflowers …

Love the wild flowers. The dragonfly is as lovely as its name – Beautiful Demoiselle.
I think M has around 60 pictures of this gorgeous insect – can only assume this is the best one…
More flowers and wildlife please!
Will do! We passed a pretty ordinary horse today and M asked if I thought you’d like a picture of a horse – said no..
Looks lovely. The video is evidentially weak as establishing you were in northern Macedonia I’m afraid. Pretty though it is
M tells me that, using satellite data and something about the timing of the photos, it IS possible to prove we were in N. Macedonia. Probably wouldn’t stand up in court though.
Oh it probably would. I was just being a tad snarky
but what does the sign mean? no speed cameras; go as fast as you like?
Oh yes, I should think so!
