We left Chiclayo this morning on yet another super-efficient Latam flight – left on time, arrived ten minutes early, bags arrived ten minutes later and pre-booked taxi was waiting for us to whisk us to our final hotel – a super-modern and high design one in smart Miraflores – what a contrast to where we’ve been.
We decided to walk the forty minutes to lunch at a place which is the place in Miraflores (Lima) to go for a swanky lunch along with everyone else. There’s no pre-booking so one has to queue – but it’s part of the pleasure as they give you little toasted and salted maize snacks to eat while you have a drink – delicious!

Our drinks – well, Sue sensibly had a beer and I had a pisco sour – a drink which is the most delicious ever! And as befits such a restaurant, we wanted to take the glass home with us.

And how about these cocktail shakers?

More delicious snacks – wonderful vegetable crisps appeared at the table while we waited to order.

As ever, we shared dishes because it’s too much to eat one on your own. We had ceviche mixto (ie fish and seafood). At one side you’ll see sweet potato, and at the other maize kernels.

We then ordered another classic: cauda which is a kind of layered dish with smooth potato at the bottom and the top, egg, avocado and the most delicious crab in between. Those are little quails’ eggs on top – we have seen quite a few for sale, but no quail.

We were completely full/dazed by the end of our swanky meal:

We were a bit taken aback by the sign at the entrance which we noticed as we left – but good on the Peruvians, huh?
We had a rather hot and long walk back as we detoured through the Gaudi-influenced park of love which has one of the ugliest statues we’ve seen in a long time:

They are wearing clothes: here’s the back view.

Now how do you follow that lunch? A sleep and an evening drink to watch the sunset from the sixteenth floor bar of our hotel?
Fantastic!
Hi Pip! Yes, it’s been a fantastic trip – sorry to be flying back tonight..
What a contrast.
Lunch looks delicious!!
It was completely delicious and the restaurant was full of Peruvians, enjoying themselves on a Thursday lunchtime!
What fun to follow your final day, revolting statue and all. I can’t figure out how the male figure’s body (head bent down past his knees) actually works – but I suspect that’s not the point. The crab dish with potato, avocado and egg looks wonderful. Perhaps Rich can imitate it from the photo…!
I agree about the statue but found it so ghastly I couldn’t be bothered to work out how it fitted together. And that was not quite our last day – we fly tonight and spent the morning watching a huge demo of medics! M will post some pictures I’m sure.
I love how relaxed you both look!
Seriously relaxed and that restaurant was hugely entertaining.
Is that Sue I see waiting on table?
Pisco sour – delicious but have you tried the more humble chicha?
Yes, that’s me lurking behind the ceviche. We drank some chicha today at your prompting – completely delicious!
WAW, I say!
What a day.
xx
And still a day to come – we fly tonight!
Sounds like the perfect ending!
It was a really lovely day – not quite the end as we fly tonight..
Food looks utterly delicious! What an odd sculpture to choose for a public place – it’s so highly sexualised! – and the clothes may still be on but it doesn’t look like they’ll stay on for long! Might explain why the sign was necessary!
Food was altogether lovely. Completely agree about the statue – highly sexualised and very big! The rest of the little park had some crumbling wavey walls of mosaics, sub sub Gaudi – all v strange.
What a wonderful trip. Safe travels!
Yes, gearing up now for hours at the airport and a long flight….
