We went on a tour of Dharavi (the oldest slum in Mumbai) this morning but were requested not to take photos – understandably. An interesting experience and very well done by the NGO we went with. After that, you’ll understand why we ended up doing a long walk beside the sea front (step count today – 25,500) and sat on Chowpatty Beach for some time, having selfies taken by others. You may recognise the dogs in the first one as being the relatives of the ones in Ahmedabad at the start of our holiday – they’re not; all dogs in India look the same and they all sleep all day in the most relaxed fashion. Being fashionable Mumbaikers, some have acquired collars.

So glad you’ve enjoyed it! We have one more day here then the flight back. Tomorrow we’re on a tour of public transport, laundry services and the dabba wallahs ( people who deliver meals across the city ) – never a dull moment!

The dogs are surprisingly relaxed, pretty well fed and mostly friendly – all a bit unlikely somehow. It’s been an amazing trip – one more day of exploring then back to the cold ( and miserable) UK…
Thank you for all the most interesting photos. You are clever to catch the birds so clearly! Mumbai looks much more affluent than when I visited briefly in 1959!! The dogs in India are a mystery aren’t they – the all appear to be largely the same breed and for feral animals, unaggressive. And, given that nobody will be picking up after them, they seem remarkably discreet when depositing their excrement!
You’re quite right! The streets aren’t full of dog poo which is altogether surprising and the dogs do all seem to be related. I think people feed them biscuits and stuff just out of general respect for life ( they do the same with birds and, of course, cows) so the dogs sort of expect kindness rather than kicks.
