The opening photo is the view of Kastoria from our terrace – I’m not much good at landscapes but this town is so photogenic that we had to share one or two snaps. Kastoria is a lovely little town on a lake full of birds, so here are a few of the ones we’ve seen: not too rare, but still sweet and very obliging in terms of having their photos taken. I particularly like the fact that many of them were going to sleep next to the long paseo as we left town this evening. Tomorrow – we share with you the prime industry of the town – you’ll never guess what it is (unless you Google it of course).

Charming is just the right word. And the top photo is beautiful Miriam!!!
Thanks Nicky – as I say, landscapes are not my forte but it’s pretty difficult not to take spectacular pictures with these views and this light.
That pelican is so lovely! And the first photo
And I identified it as a pelican IMMEDIATELY- knew you’d be impressed.
You asked for birds … and that’s one of the few I’ve been able to identify! Maybe some more tomorrow or the next day when we go further north towareds the lakes.
I also loved the pelican! and the water is unbelievably glassy and still.
This is such a gorgeous place – lakeside strolls, excellent food and more geese than you can photograph!
Thanks Tara – I have one from today where the pelican looks even more grumpy! Clearly not happy having its photo taken.
Pelican pic is stunning – the perfect reflection in the water and the way it seems to be keeping a beady eye on what Miriam is doing!
It was keeping a beady eye – not at all ready for its close up I think..
I’m terrified by the Pelican! What a great big beak
Yes, but they fly and eat quite slowly I think so maybe not too terrifying unless of course you’re a trout…
